PIB Fact Check settled this on 20 August, in Hindi: fake video, AI-made, and no ₹4,000 PM-KISAN payout exists.
Posted on 20 August, the Press Information Bureau’s fact-check account repeated the circulating claim — that on Raksha Bandhan, farmers would get ₹4,000 as the 24th instalment under PM-KISAN — and then crossed it out. The post’s Hindi line is blunt: “यह दावा फर्जी है और यह वीडियो AI से बनाया गया है।” According to the bureau, the Centre has made no such announcement. Identical wording sits on Instagram and Facebook; DD News repeated it on X.
PM-KISAN: ₹2,000, three times a year
PM-KISAN still lists the real number: ₹6,000 a year to eligible landholding farmer families, in three equal instalments. Ministry FAQ copy, in the revised PDF, writes that as ₹2,000 every four months. eKYC stays mandatory on the homepage. Festival double-credits do not appear on those pages, and no Gazette pins a tranche to 28 August.
Release day for the 23rd instalment was 20 June 2026 in Tarakeswar, Hooghly, recorded in a PIB note that still sits on the portal banner. Rupee and farmer counts from that day sit in the table below. Any 24th instalment will need the same kind of notice — a date, a place, a figure — before a WhatsApp file counts as a payday.
What the fake video is really fishing for
Farmers who treat the clip as an order often look next for a form or an OTP. Scheme channels already exist — none of them need a forwarded video: Know Your Status on the .gov.in domain, and the toll-free / IVRS numbers 155261 and 011-24300606, which @PMKISANofficial posted as the PM-KISAN helpline and which a March 2023 PIB note on the scheme described as a 24x7 line for beneficiary status. Asking for a UPI PIN, a “Rakhi KYC” fee, or a link that is not pmkisan.gov.in is someone else using the fake instalment as bait.
