A card dressed as Truth Social has the White House shopping for Indian EVMs before 2028. Treat that file as a procurement plan and you are reading a screenshot that fact-checkers have already pulled apart. The post still on Trump’s account is a pitch for photo ID.
Indian EVMs and the 2028 screenshot
Newschecker logged a circulating grab, archived at archive.ph/pgWi8, and tied a copy on X to @akshay_vicky. The card has Trump in “serious talks” with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to bring India’s Electronic Voting Machine system to America for the 2028 race. It also calls those machines “unbeatable, fast, and 100% secure.” The Quint, writing on 20 August 2026, said the same image had passed more than 2.6 lakh views on X and carried a SynthID watermark consistent with OpenAI image tools. Newschecker compared the two texts: the “100% secure” line is on the fabricated screenshot.
What Trump posted
The Hindu and The Hill date the genuine Truth Social item to Monday, 17 August 2026, U.S. Eastern time. Factly and Newschecker, working from the same URL, log 18 August — Tuesday morning in India. A late-Monday U.S. post lands as 18 August IST. The text, as The Hindu and The Hill quoted it:
“Earlier this month, India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, asked our Administration — How can you have Elections in the U.S. without a valid Photo ID? India’s last Election had 646,000,000 Voters! Less than 1% voted by mail, and every single Voter had to have a VALID Photo Identity Document. We need to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, now.”
Photo identity. Mail ballots. A bill in Congress. Kumar is in the real post as the person who asked about ID, which matches the 12 August meeting The Times of India reported between Kumar and U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor at Nirvachan Sadan.
Gor repeated the ID point the same day, in a post Factly archived: 646 million voters, each required to show ID, and a call for Congress to pass the Act. India Today ran the same split on 20 August: praise for India’s polls; silence, in the original, on machines for 2028.
The SAVE America Act itself
The White House page for the bill, whitehouse.gov/saveamerica, states: “India and Brazil tie voter I.D. to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship.” That is the official comparison the administration wants in public: identity documents, not a shipment of booth hardware.
The Print, on 18 August, gave the Act its full name — Safeguard American Voter Eligibility — and described a citizenship-and-ID package: proof of citizenship to register, nationwide photo ID, tighter mail voting. The Hindu summarised the same three planks. A reader who only saw the viral card would think Kumar’s Delhi meeting was a sales call for EVMs. The documents around that meeting, and Trump’s own post, stay on voter identification.
