Claim: The 8th Pay Commission fitment factor is fixed at 4.00 (or 3.68 / 3.83) and the salary hike starts this month.
Verdict: False
On the record: Cabinet approved the Terms of Reference on 28 October 2025. A Finance Ministry resolution dated 3 November 2025 constituted the panel. 8cpc.gov.in still lists stakeholder visits, including Jaipur on 31 August–1 September 2026. No gazette, PIB release, or expenditure notification locks 4.00, 3.833, or any other multiplier.

Family groups keep sending me the same screenshot. Four-point-zero in bold. August as payday. I opened 8cpc.gov.in, the Cabinet note, and the Finance Ministry resolution this afternoon. Union memo. Rumour month.
“8th pay commission news” has been sitting near the top of India’s search chart. The cards pick 3.61 or 3.833 or 4.00 and treat August 2026 as the credit date. There is a Commission. I could not find those extra lines in the gazette pile.
What Cabinet and the Gazette actually set up
Cabinet met on 28 October 2025 and cleared the Terms of Reference. PIB PRID 2183290 and the PMO write-up name a three-member temporary body, 18 months to report, optional interim note, and three constraints: fiscal prudence, state finances, unfunded pension costs. Fitment waits for the report.
Resolution F. No. 01-01/2025-E.III(A) went out on 3 November 2025. Chair: Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. Part-time member: Prof. Pulak Ghosh. Member-Secretary: Pankaj Jain. PDF: 8cpc.gov.in/terms-of-reference.
Count 18 months from 3 November 2025 and you land around May 2027.
Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, told the Rajya Sabha on 28 July 2026 — written reply — that the ToR let the panel set its own procedure, with no duty to preview numbers while it sits. Mint carried it. Queue after that: report, Cabinet, expenditure notification.
Where 4.00 and 3.833 come from
Seventh CPC multiplied basic pay by 2.57.
NC-JCM, the All India Defence Employees’ Federation and Bharat Pensioners’ Samaj put 3.833 in their memos. Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh asked for 4.00 and a ₹72,000 floor. Mint printed those as union asks; so did ET Wealth.
Hypotheticals at 1.83, 2.0, 2.57 and 3.83 keep turning up in explainers. Mint’s 23 August calculator flags them as estimates. Sunday Guardian, 25 August: no final fitment, no revised minimum, no DA-merger formula. Same gazette test we used on One Nation, One Election for 2029.
Why August 2026 is being sold as payday
Buried in PIB’s October 2025 note is a trend line. Commissions have usually taken effect from 1 January after a ten-year gap, so “the effect of the 8th Central Pay Commission recommendations would normally be expected from 01.01.2026.” That is the likely effective date after a report exists and the government accepts it.
Report. Cabinet. Expenditure notification. A January 2026 effect, if those three land, would be arrears — and only if Cabinet later signs that date. Festival double-credits followed the same path in the PM-KISAN Raksha Bandhan ₹4,000 clip we already checked.
Jaipur: 31 August and 1 September 2026. Bengaluru: 7–8 October.

Questions people are actually searching
Is 8th pay commission fitment 4.00 true?
No. Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh asked for 4.00. NC-JCM asked for 3.833. Cabinet has not notified either.
When will 8th pay commission be implemented?
Eighteen months from 3 November 2025 is roughly May 2027 for the report. Cabinet then has to accept it. PIB’s 2025 note said the usual effective date after that would be 1 January 2026, which would mean arrears, not an August 2026 credit.
8th CPC fitment factor latest news (29 August 2026)
Jaipur is listed for 31 August–1 September. Bengaluru for 7–8 October. No fitment gazette.
Will the hike start from January 2026?
Only after the report, Cabinet acceptance, and an expenditure notification that uses that date. None of those three has happened as of this page’s last update.
